The review included a survey, how was this designed?
The Halpin Team used the Smart Survey platform to design and manage the survey, based on similar consultation exercises undertaken both in Higher Education and in other sectors. This survey format is widely used to illicit broad stakeholder feedback to inform change management, and reviews of culture and governance.
The survey was intended to be a simple consultation platform designed to encourage broad stakeholder input. It did not purport to be an academic research tool. A target of 1,000 responses to the survey was set to ensure a robust data sample to inform the review. 1,392 completed responses to the survey were received:
43% (603) students
31% (428) professional staff services
23% (317) academic staff
Any comments received about the survey are discussed in the report.
In addition, there were 49 one-to-one interviews including with the Vice-Chancellor, University Secretary, Chair of Council, Council members, senior academic & professional services staff, Union representatives and the President of the Students’ Union.
There were 9 group discussions (30 mins to 2 hours) attended by 52 representatives including:
1 x student
9 x members of Court
16 x professional services staff
26 x academic staff
