Philip’s immediate prior role was Vice President Operations at the University of Canberra (Australia), having previously been Registrar & Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at the University of Sheffield (UK). He has been Head of Administration and a member of the Executive at three universities in the period since 2005.
Philip has held a number of university company Directorships; was an elected member of the UK Association of Heads of University Administration national Executive 2008-2014); and an external member of the Oxford University Student Union Board of Trustees (2011 – 2015). In 2014, he was elected Chair of the governing body for the Heads of University Management and Administration Network in Europe (HUMANE). Philip is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
Philip was educated at Oxford Polytechnic, Oxford University (Magdalen College) and Durham University (University College) from where he received his PhD in Social Sciences in 1991.
