Hanif Barma

Hanif is a founder partner of Board Alchemy, a specialist governance consultancy, and Co-founder of The Risk Coalition – an initiative to raise the standards of risk governance and risk management.

He has delivered Halpin governance effectiveness reviews for HE institutions such as University of Manchester, University of West London, UCL, LIBF, as well as sector bodies such as Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and Universities UK. Hanif is Honorary Visiting Fellow of corporate governance at the Business School at City, University of London.

For thirteen years Hanif was a founder partner at Independent Audit, and prior to this was a director at PwC. Hanif’s highly regarded work with audit and risk functions enables him to deliver an impressive working knowledge of assurance to boards. His work with boards and committees brings insight to risk and audit functions of their key stakeholders’ needs and expectations.

His current NED roles are: Trustee & Treasurer at Coram Beanstalk, Member of the Audit & Risk Assurance Committee at Department for International Trade, Board Member at Southwark Cathedral Enterprises and Audit Committee Member at the London Institute of Banking & Finance.

His earlier roles include: Chair (and before that Audit Committee Chair) of St Christopher’s Fellowship, a leading specialist charity for children and young people in care and on the edge of care; member of the Audit & Risk Committee at City, University of London; member of the Working Group of the Financial Reporting Council’s Audit & Assurance Lab.
