Michele Looker

Michele has worked in higher education for 25 years, latterly as part of the senior management team of the Open University in Wales, working strategically across a number of key areas, including strategic planning, funding, financial management and major incident planning.

As Assistant Director, Michele led on the development of the Open University’s strategic planning and business planning activities in Wales, which were underpinned by the development of a comprehensive suite of data, information and key performance indicators to support evidence-based decision making.

She also led on a number of University-wide projects, including leading a large, dispersed and diverse remote team across the UK to implement and integrate Welsh loans into the Open University’s complex student administrative systems.

Previously, Michele worked at Staffordshire University, where she worked closely with the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive, providing top-level corporate management and business support to the University’s Executive team, including horizon scanning; complex analysis of both internal and external data sources to provide intelligence and trend analysis; development of executive briefings and reports relating to the sector, comparator universities and other competitors; benchmarking exercises; performance indicators; published league tables; and market intelligence.

Most recently, Michele has been working with insurance companies on a consultancy basis, carrying out complex financial analysis of a wide range of business, assessing the losses incurred as a result of lockdown and restrictions due to COVID-19, and producing comprehensive reports to provide recommendations for settlement to policy holders.
