Penny is a leading figure in development with a proven track record in leadership and fundraising strategy.
Penny spent 11 years as Development Director and Fellow at Newnham College University of Cambridge for the past eleven years. Here she established an outstanding fundraising and alumnae relations programme at Newnham College University of Cambridge, and successfully created and led the biggest campaign in the College’s history, embedding a strong and sustainable culture of giving. As a Fellow and member of the Governing Body she has experience in charity governance and legal issues. Penny is also skilled in alumnae communications (both written and social media).
Prior to changing career to the field of development, Penny practiced commercial property law for 17 years. She was the first female partner with children in the City law firm Macfarlanes where she advised on multi-million-pound property deals. She then built her own commercial property development practice at Mills & Reeve in Cambridge.
Penny is passionate about the positive impact that business management coaching has on institutions. She has acted informally as a mentor and is professionalising those skills by qualifying as an Accredited Business Coach with Meyler Campbell. While her expertise is broad, she is particularly interested in diversity and how best to use an integrated approach to career progression and executive board membership. Penny is a former Trustee of the educational charity for social mobility, Achievement for All. She is an Ambassador for School Readers Charity.
