Richard is an experienced professional with a strong track record of strategic, operational, and fundraising excellence in the voluntary sector stretching well over two decades. He has provided robust strategic and planning advice to leading charities such as Cancer Research UK, Tommy’s, Epilepsy Society, Education Support Partnership, Girlguiding, the National Literary Trust, Architects’ Benevolent Society, RCN Foundation, British Youth Council, and the Museums Libraries Archives Council.

Richard has extensive experience in charity policy, communications, mentoring and governance development.

His key strengths lie in charity strategic planning, fundraising, governance, and communications – and the parts where all of these intersect.

Richard has led the fundraising function for over ten national charities and has worked with a wide range of organisations as a consultant, interim head of fundraising and trainer. He has direct experience and success in most areas of fundraising, including from individuals, trusts, National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Lottery Community Fund and companies, and is the co-author of Fundraising Strategy, published in 2021 by DSC.

He has advised a wide range of organisations on their fundraising strategy, Case for Support development, and business planning in recent years, including Cancer Research UK, Tommy’s, Epilepsy Society and Girlguiding.

Richard is Founding Director of 3rd Sector Mission Control, is a serial Trustee (currently serving as Chair of St Albans City Band), and in his spare time is the Event Director at St Albans parkrun and established The Funding Network in Hertfordshire, which has so far raised over £70,000 for small local organisations. He has worked and volunteered for charities for over 25 years and is also the Co-Event Director of his local parkrun.
